Did you always know you wanted to be the first freshman to get alcohol poisoning?
Definitely not. There are so many possibilities here at college. Sometimes, you just have to step outside of your comfort zone. I realized I wanted this during move-in this morning; something just clicked.
At what point during move in this morning did you decide you wanted to be the first freshman to get alcohol poisoning?
Right after watching my parents drive away, it just hit me: there is no one around to tell me what to do. That was the moment. The motivation lasted inside me, pushing me through all the highs and lows of college. When I look back to when college began about seven hours ago, it seems to have just flown by so quickly.
At exactly which shot were you on when you became certain that you were going to become the first freshman to get alcohol poisoning?
Right after the sixteenth. I actually wasn’t sure that I would be able to pull through before that. I took a moment to remember just how hard I had worked to get into UCLA, which was just the last bit of drive I needed. It’s crazy that I don’t really remember anything after that. It was so surreal. I remember taking a victory-stumble back to Hedrick. A little while later, everyone was celebrating. They really outdid themselves! They took me on this parade down The Hill on this super fancy float with flashing lights and all. They even got my parents to be there at the end!
Do you think this experience will help you in your future career?
Great question. No, not really.
Do you have any advice to any other freshman looking to achieve the same things you have?
Hold onto this special experience. Remember to take it all in. It’s something no one will ever be able to take away from you. It’s all going to go by so quickly. I am still amazed by how many times I made my mom cry in a day.
